A High school teacher who allegedly set ablaze a house belonging to a member of Meru County Assembly (MCA) has been charged before a Nkubu Law Court.
Evans Murimi, a teacher at Nkubu High School in South Imenti, Meru appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Ezra Ayuba charged with arson, robbery with violence and refusal to be taken fingerprints.
The court heard that on the night of March 8, 2021 the teacher jointly with others stormed to the premises belonging to the Abogeta West MCA Denis Kiogora alias DMK at Nyumba ya Mbiti village in Kiongone location.
The court was also told that the teacher and alleged accomplices were carrying dangerous weapons which they used to rob Sh2900 and a mobile phone worth Sh8000 from a worker in the premises.
The court heard that the accused jointly with others who were not in court also set fire to a dwelling house valued Sh250,000 belonging to the MCA.
Mr Murimi was also accused for refusing to be taken finger prints contrary to section 55 (5) of the National Police Service Act No. 11 of 2011 Laws of Kenya.
The high school teacher was released on a bond worth Sh 300,000 with a surety of the same amount.
The case will be mentioned on May 30, 2021 awaiting hearing.
