Pomp and colour reigned supreme during the hero’s welcome for two-time national champion Brenda Jebet at her home in Kisonei, Tenges Ward, Baringo County.
Teachers and students accompanying the athlete broke into song and dance as they welcomed their hero back home after successfully emerging in first place at the recently concluded Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) held in Mombasa.
Brenda Jebet, a form two student at Ng’etmoi Girls Secondary School, who is overwhelmed with joy, told EducationNews that her unending achievement is purely motivated by sheer hard work and determination in the sport.
She hailed support from her coach, Ronald Tuitoek, parents and Baringo County Chief Officer for Agriculture, Dr Milka Toromo, for her immense support in ensuring her talent thrives.

Chief Officer of Agriculture Dr Milka Toromo, who facilitated her journey to her village, hailed her athletic journey and praised her as a trailblazer on whom society depends in the future.
“Brenda’s Journey has just started, and it will end in a promising future if we support her morally, financially, and spiritually. Her journey of hard work and resilience is among young people who, if their talents are aptly utilised, will bring fame to our country,” said Dr Milka Toromo.
The government official promised to support the young girl in achieving her dream in the sport and facilitate her preparations for the East African Championships, which are slated for August in Nakuru County.
She extolled the society for turning in numbers annually to celebrate the fanfare associated with Brenda’s success. She challenged youth in the area to embrace athletics and join her on this promising journey.
Dr Toromo, however, urged the community to focus on boys and girls, regretting that more focus has shifted to girls.
