HELB gives guidelines for loan and scholarship applications for first-timers

Students line up at HELB offices to apply for loans. First time applicants have been given guidelines to follow when applying.

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has issued guidelines for students applying for undergraduate and Technical Vocational and Education Training (TVET) scholarships and loans for the first time.

HELB advises applicants to provide accurate information and to use a valid phone number. Additionally, applicants should use a valid email address with a memorable password, and ensure that the email account is accessible before starting the application process.

Applicants must use the correct KCSE Index Number and examination year, and provide current university or college details. Additionally, they should read and understand the terms and conditions of the scholarship and loan applications.

HELB also requests that applicants inform the funding agencies if they transfer to a different university or college or change their courses, and ensure that the agencies have their current email address. Applicants should apply promptly.

Those who wish to apply for first time scholarships and loans should apply at www.hef.co.ke and click on “register” to create an account.

Applicants should confirm whether they have national identification (ID) cards. Those who don’t have national IDs are advised not to use another person’s ID but rather use their KCSE Index Number.

Applicants will need to provide a valid email address and password to complete the registration. Then, check their email (Inbox or Spam/Junk folder) to activate their account and log in. Next, enter a valid telephone number for verification.

After verification, they should fill in their profile details and update their bio-data. Consent to the collection of your personal data is required.

Once these steps are completed, they can submit their scholarship or loan request and consent to the processing of their data by accepting the loan terms and conditions.

Additionally, they should update their guarantor details and provide loan payment information (bank or mobile payment). Finally, they can submit their application.

HELB opened the application portal for loans and scholarships to undergraduate and TVET earlier this year on June 21.
