The National Assembly Committee on Education has confirmed the new dates for stakeholder meetings with Nairobi and Wajir Counties for hearings in the investigation of allegations of widespread cheating in last year`s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. The hearings for the two counties were meant to take place on Friday, March 24.
The hearings have been scheduled for Tuesday and Friday.
The committee has been doing the hearing for the past one week across all the affected counties where it is suspected that cheating of examinations was rampant.
The hearing was set to take place last Friday in Wajir County but it was postponed until tomorrow, Tuesday March 28, due to the start of holy month of Ramadhan as majority of the residents in this region are Muslims.
On the other hand, the Nairobi hearing will take place on Friday, March 31, which is the deadline after which the committee will retreat to write its report and table it before Parliament within two months.
So far, stakeholders from Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Embu, Kakamega, Machakos, Nyamira, Mombasa, and Kisumu counties have met the Parliamentary Committee on Education and have given their views.
The Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Chief Executive Officer Dr. David Njeng`ere will also appear before the committee after KNEC officials were widely mentioned to have helped in giving institutions exam leakages at a fee.
