Alarm over misuse of contraceptives by teenage girls in Kisii

The Chairperson of Kisii County Clinic Nurses Esther Moya has called upon the government to take measures to prevent the widespread distribution of contraceptives to teenage girls without proper guidance.

Addressing young parents at Nyamarambe town, Moya said that many girls fail to adhere to the prescribed intervals for taking these drugs, causing headaches and nausea, which, in turn, hinder their school attendance and academic performance.

She further emphasized the need for the National and County governments to train community service providers and equip them with appropriate contraceptives.

Moya stressed that these providers could offer proper guidance and administration to village girls who may be unaware of the potential risks associated with misuse.

Additionally, she suggested that schools collaborate with community service providers to reinforce their Guidance and Counselling programs, promoting responsible decision-making among students.

She also applauded efforts to distribute sanitary towels to schoolgirls and hoped that similar strategies could be employed to address the issue of contraceptive misuse among girls.
