Kakamega gubernatorial candidate Cleophas Malala has promised to improve the education sector in the county if he will be elected governor during the August 9 general elections.

Malala promised to provide lunch for all learners in day schools within the county.

Speaking during a campaign trail in Eshihongo market in Navakholo sub county, Malala pointed out that in his administration, learners will not be sent home for school fees as the county government will streamline bursaries.

“Bursary funds will be sent directly to schools,” he said.

Malala, who was accompanied by his running mate Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, expressed concern that some pupils in ECDE centres trek for long hours to get to school.

“I will build ECDE centres in every church compound to bring education closer to every resident in Kakamega.  I’m keen on ensuring that children don’t walk for long hours in search of education,” he said.

Dr. Inyangala said she will ensure every girl in Kakamega county has access to education.

“For a very long time, girls have been neglected hence we must ensure women are empowered by all means. We want them to rise and claim political positions as well as compete favourably with their male counterparts in the job market,” she said.

She added that their administration will establish technical colleges in every ward  to cater for many youth who are in need of technical skills to align with the changing trends of the modern Society.
