Guard land for education of your children, Governor tells residents

Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has told the residents of Nyamira and Kisii Counties to avoid selling their pieces of land because it will help them in future to education of their children.

Arati who was speaking in Keroka during the burial of Willy Manyansa said there are limited resources in the region due to high population, asking residents to take care of what they have for self-sustenance.

“Your land is the sole source of your economic stability, therefore you should not misuse it,” he said.

The governor asked the populace to embrace the modern way of farming like zero grazing to enable them get quality products for home consumption and for business.

He asked agriculture graduates from the region to join hands and offer agricultural advice to the farmers at subsidized rates instead of waiting to be employed in the already flooded job market.

“Use the skills you acquired from university to be job creators by using the available materials abd opportunities,” he dvised.

He cautioned the residents against poor land use like vertical cultivation and deforestation because they impoverish the soils.

“I urge the residents to be conversant of evils of climate change and set to mitigate its effects,” he said.

Arati who revealed that he had commissioned a committee in his county to fight climate change, asked his counterpart from Nyamira Amos Nyaribo to follow suit.

He discouraged the residents from planting trees like Cyprus along the river banks and replace them with environmental friendly trees like bamboos that conserve water.

The funeral was attended Professor Peter Anyang Nyongo and Amos Nyaribo Kisumu and Nyamira counties respectively.

Anyang Nyongo asked the residents to embrace the Lake Region Economic Block adding that through the organization more social economic ventures will be achieved.
