Sadness engulfed a secondary school in Kisii County on Sunday, February 12 when a teacher allegedly committed suicide in his house.

According to family members, the teacher who has been sick for a long time took his life to relieve himself of the excruciating pain caused by the long illness.

The deceased, Evans Nyangweso Onchari who was a teacher at Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi Kegati Secondary school, said in a letter that he had suffered from Asthma, Cancer and High Blood Pressure for more than seven years and saw no value of living any longer.

“I have suffered for too long and decided to relieve myself from these pains,” read part of the letter.

He apologized to his wife for taking such a cruel step on himself saying that it was inevitable and her to take care of their children and ageing mother.

His death caused panic in in the village as residents mourned him as a polite and dependable teacher who was ready to assist whenever need arose.

After learning about the death, Kisii County Commissioner Tom Anjere asked the residents to talk their problems out to close relatives or friends to ease the mental burden.
