Graduates urged to use knowledge gained to solve societal problems

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has urged Meru University of Science and Technology graduates to harness acquired knowledge and skills to address development challenges and foster job creation.

In a speech read on his behalf by Research Development Director Rosalinda Owour during the university’s 11th graduation ceremony, Machogu emphasized the pivotal role of graduates as a driving force for economic growth and underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to expanding educational access.

Machogu also clarified on the new higher education funding model, affirming that it aims to facilitate education access without imposing additional financial burden on parents and students.

The institution Vice Chancellor (VC) Romanus Odhiambo encouraged the students to commit to lifelong learning and engage in meaningful activities.

The VC also asked them to embody the four core values of the university – Competitiveness, Integrity, Professionalism, Quality and Innovations – and use them as guiding principles in their future.

The varsity Council Chairperson Prof. Jane Wangui acknowledged the high rates of unemployment among youth and encouraged the graduands to leverage technology as a means to create jobs.
