Grade Six pupil seeks protection from Magoha, Matiang’i over witchcraft allegations

By Enock Okong’o

A standard six pupil at Ndonyo Primary School in Kisii County has appealed to the Education Cabinet CS, Prof. George Magoha and his Interior counterpart, Fred Matiang’i to intervene and help her from being pursued over witchcraft allegations.

She said that the constant threats towards her and her family are disrupting her studies.

The minor narrated how fellow villagers wanted to lynch her and both of her parents on alleged claims of witchcraft.

She said that she was among mourners who were keeping vigil with the family of the late Pastor Alloys who had been buried the previous day when the deceased’s relatives seized her and demanded an explanation on why she was there.

“I stayed quiet because I thought they were joking with me,” she said.

Her mother, Mrs. Sarah Ayunga said the neighbours went and called her to go and witness the ‘bad practices’ of her alleged spoiled daughter.

“When I reached there in the company of my husband, our attackers ordered us to lie on the ground together with our daughter and asked us to say our last prayers. That’s when we sensed danger.” she narrated.

She added: “When the attackers relaxed while others went to fetch petrol and tires, we took to our eels and locked ourselves in our house. We screamed for help and luckily a good Samaritan from Otendo SDA Church pleaded with the attackers to let the law take its course.”

The Good Samaritan called the police from Etago station who rescued the victims from the irate villagers who were baying for their blood.

The area Chief Mr. Chsrles Omwono confirmed the attack but warned the residents against taking the law into their own hands.

He added that the school girl was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where she is still undergoing treatment from the wounds inflicted on her.

He said that the police had taken up the matter to arrest and arraign the suspected attackers.
