A 12-year-old grade six candidate Francis Kimaku has died after their house collapsed amid rains in Musuani, Mwingi west sub county, Kitui County.

Speaking to the media, his father Josphat Mwangangi said that the rain began at around 10 pm, persisting through the night until tragedy struck at 1 am.

He noted that Kimaku was sleeping in the house with three other children who happen to be his grandchildren when the disaster unfolded.

“I heard screams coming from the house they were sleeping in, saying the house had crumbled. On reaching there, I found my last-born son trapped in the rubble, while other children evacuated safely,” Mwangangi recounted.

He further said that upon checking on his son, he discovered the boy bleeding from the ears and nose, and was complaining of severe stomach pain.

“He was bleeding, and his neck was swollen. He told me that his stomach was painful, and he died in my arms while waiting for help to take him to the hospital,” Mwangangi lamented.

He further added that Kimaku had just finished his KPSEA exams a few weeks ago and was very bright in school.

The grief-stricken family is now reaching out to well-wishers for support in organizing the burial of the young boy, whose lifeless body has been transferred to the Migwani hospital mortuary.
