A 9-year-old Grade 4 girl from Shauri Yako village, Homa Bay County is fighting for her life in the hospital after a brutal rape.

According to Arujo location Chief Bob Olango, the girl encountered her attacker while crossing the road to her grandmother’s compound.

“The assailant forcibly took her into a sorghum farm where the heinous act occurred,” he stated.

Olango further revealed that the grandmother was alerted to the incident by other village women who heard the girl’s screams.

“Upon reaching the scene, they found the girl in a pool of blood, with an unidentified man fleeing,” he lamented.

The chief underscored that the victim was rushed to Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital, revealing severe injuries to her private parts and eyes, seemingly inflicted by a sharp object.

“The girl suffers from vecto virginal fistula as a result of forceful vaginal penetration,” the hospital Matron Caroline Adongo stated.

She added that despite arriving at the hospital with low oxygen levels, the medical team provided artificial support, enabling minor surgeries.

The hospital expressed optimism about her recovery, citing positive responses to treatment.

Christians in the county urged the police to swiftly apprehend the suspect responsible for assaulting the girl.

Bishop James Kambona of Joy Evangelical Ministries for Christ expressed concern, linking the disturbing trend of child abuse to a broader societal moral decay.

This distressing incident follows Nyamira County Woman Representative Jerusah Momanyi’s recent plea to enforce laws for the castration of individuals found guilty of rape or child defilement.
