A Grade 4 girl was among four people feared dead after they were swept away by floods in Homa Bay County on Sunday.
Police reports confirmed that two people died in the incident, among them a mother and her child while two others are missing.
Residents believe that the missing two people might have been deposited in the sand as the search continues.
The sudden incident left more than 100 people without houses and food, the most affected being Kisaku village which lost also livestock and other property worth millions of shillings.
Kakisingiri West Location Chief Eliud Adeke confirmed that an elderly man who was going to Sundown market was cornered by floods but was rescued and taken to Homa Bay Hospital in critical condition.
“The water from the hills flowed to Sindo town and caught the people unawares as it swallowed up their businesses and houses,” he said.
Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan advised residents living in the lower sides of the county to move to higher ground for safety as the government mobilizes its security organs for evacuation and other relief services.

He praised the Ministry of Education (MoE) for postponing the opening of schools for Term 2 because it will give parents and teachers enough time to put more security measures in place for their children.
Suba South MP Carol Omondi asked the government, the Red Cross and other humanitarian agencies to move to the area and help the affected people with food and bedding as they try to come to terms with the calamity.
Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga said that a collaborative disaster management team will be formed to evaluate the damage and sensitize the affected people on the way forward.
Wanga assured the displaced families who are camping at Nyabomo and Sindo Primary schools of their safety as they will be accommodated in the neighbourhood pending further evacuation plans by both the county and the national governments.
