Cardinal Otunga Boys High School in Mosocho, Kisii County, has corrected a Grade 10 placement error that saw two learners mistakenly assigned to Cardinal Otunga Girls School in Bungoma. The boys have now been rerouted and admitted to the proper institution following a review of their placement details.
Deputy Principal Academics Albert Tani said the resolution eased anxiety among parents who had raised concerns after the erroneous letters were issued. “The successful review of the placement process is a plus the pressure parents had has been sorted,” he noted, adding that the school acted promptly once the anomaly was flagged.
Tani said the school is prepared for the senior school transition, with 72 of its 82 Teachers Service Commission (TSC) staff having undergone retooling during the holidays. He reported that the majority of learners reporting so far are opting for the STEM pathway, with nearly 70 per cent already enrolled under that track.
To bridge gaps in technical subjects, the school has partnered with nearby Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to support instruction where teachers are yet to be deployed. The arrangement, he said, ensures continuity in learning across all three pathways as the Grade 10 cohort settles in.

Elsewhere, at Sameta High School, admissions Teacher Justus Mauti said they had requested the Ministry to review the placement of several learners whose admission letters indicated Sameta, but whose details were missing from the portal. He said some requests had been rejected and urged the Ministry to reconsider cases where students had already reported to the school.
Mauti said the school is managing admissions while awaiting feedback on the pending reviews. He emphasized the need for clarity and consistency in the placement system to avoid disruptions for learners and parents during the transition period.
