A grade one child is fighting for her life at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after she was defiled by a close relative at Riobara village in Bobasi Constituency of Kisii County.
According to the grandmother of the minor Mrs Joyce Nyambeki, she heard the distress cry from the house of the suspect, and when she rushed there, she found the suspect smoking a cigarette as he lay on the bed after abusing the 6-year old, whom he hid under the bed.
The grandmother raised the alarm and villagers responded quickly to accost the suspect as others rushed the victim to Keumbu Sub-county hospital, where they were referred to Kisii Teaching And Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.
Kisii County Police Commander Francis Kooli confirmed the arrest of the suspect.
“He is in our custody and will appear in the court after my officers have completed investigation,” he briefed.
Mr. Kooli decried the high rate of child defilement in the area and appealed to parents not to leave their children alone or with relatives with questionable character.
