Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Lamu branch Executive Secretary Ibrahim Shaibu has urged the government to heavily invest in developing infrastructure in the county schools to enable a conducive learning environment for children.
Speaking to Education News in Lamu town recently, Shaibu said that lack of essential physical learning facilities in schools forced children to learn in a poor environment.
He noted that the prevailing situation has defeated teachers’ efforts to teach affectively.
“To address the challenge of lack of necessary facilities in schools there is need for concerted efforts,” he said.
Shaibu urged the government to employ more teachers in the county to cope with the ever increasing number of learners.
“Inadequate teachers have contributed to dismal performance in national examinations in schools in the region,” he added.
He asked parents to encourage their children to study harder and maintain high standards of discipline to achieve better results in examinations.
