Gov’t urged to increase capitation for students in private universities

By Peter Otuoro

Kabarak University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Henry Kiplang’at has asked the government to increase the amount of capitation funds for students studying in private universities.

Prof. Kiplang’at said that this move will lead to provision of quality education to more financially challenged students and in turn contribute to increase of manpower in the country’s job market.

Speaking at Nakuru High school during presentation of views regarding CBC to the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, Prof. Kiplang’at thanked the government for the introduction of the policy to allow government-sponsored students be admitted to private universities.

He said that private universities support the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) and adequate infrastructure and equipment have been put in place to ensure that all students studying Education-related courses will cover units relevant to it.

“We are well equipped to ensure all students studying Education-related courses cover course units which are relevant to CBC,” said the VC.

The Professor said that if implemented properly, CBC will churn out all rounded citizens with competent skills for their self-development and that of the society at large.
