The government has been asked to ensure public schools are fully equipped with essential facilities to enhance the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The appeal was made by Boniface Muindi, school manager of Kyandu Bright Academy, who expressed concern over the lack of essential resources in many public schools.

Speaking at the academy during a function, Muindi emphasized that achieving the objectives of CBC would require providing all the necessary equipment to students.

“Many public schools are struggling without the appropriate tools to facilitate learning under CBC. This hinders the potential of the curriculum,” he noted.

Simon Ndolo, a science teacher at the school, highlighted the positive response of students, particularly girls, to science subjects under CBC unlike the previous 8-4-4 system.

According to Ndolo, the practical approach of the curriculum allows students to apply theoretical knowledge through hands-on activities making learning more engaging.

“Our modern science lab has been a game-changer,” Ndolo said. “The students, especially girls, enjoy participating in practicals, which boosts their understanding and interest in science.”

Both Muindi and Ndolo urged the government to prioritize the provision of proper facilities in all public schools to ensure the CBC’s success, particularly in critical subjects like science.
