The government has been urged to equip primary schools with required learning and teaching materials ahead of enrolment of the pioneer Junior Secondary School (JSS) class in January 2023.
Speaking at Ogembo town, Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Gucha branch Chairman Ayubu Okemwa asked the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) to develop a curriculum relevant to the current needs of the country.
“Any developing nation must bank on a sound education system that factors the socio-economic needs of her populace,” he said.
He also urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to allow negotiations over the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) saying that teachers need to remunerated well as they are the midwives of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and any other development in the education sector.
He further warned politicians against meddling in education affairs terming them as sensitive and delicate matters that should not be politicized.
“Politics and politicians come and go but education is a timeless discipline that should be guarded with jealousy,” he said.
