Govt urged to educate the public on environmental conservation

Climate Ambassador Silas Wameyo has urged the national government to set up programmes like seminars to educate Kenyans on the importance of protecting the environment.

Speaking at Kangundo town, Wameyo also urged the government to encourage the public to use alternative sources of energy instead of destroying the environment and to punish those who break the law.

His sentiments come in the wake of World Environment Day celebrations today.

He advised Kenyans to plant trees since they play a significant role in the fight against environment problems, which include global warming.

“I am calling on all Kenyans to ensure they plant two trees whenever they cut one,” he added.

World Environment Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972.

Commemorated yearly on 5 June, the day  is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness about the environment.
