An education expert with the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has called on the Ministry of Education to facelift and renovate local secondary schools to boost student enrollment.

Thomas Andiwo Obondo said that local secondary day schools need to be improved to enhance their performance and in turn attract more students.

Obondo was speaking during the distribution of bursaries which he has been giving to vulnerable and needy students within Bondo constituency where he noted that parents will only take their children if the schools are developed to a level that they can offer quality education.

Obondo also called on the government to prioritize students who have been called to national and extra-county schools during the disbursement of bursaries.

The educationist through the Andiwo Obondo Foundation disbursed Ksh350,000 to benefit 50 bright but needy students from the region.

One of the teachers, Madam Gladys Olambo Okoth, exuded confidence that through the foundation’s support, beneficiaries will perform better because they shall now remain in school.
