Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has said the government is now targeting to raise enrollment of students in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVETs) to one million by end of 2025 and two million in the next one year.
The DP who was speaking during the inaugural graduation ceremony at Murang’a Technical Training Institute in Maragua Constituency said the new government policy has led to increase in number of students from 297,000 to 700,000 in only 3 years.
“We undertook certain policies to increase enrollment of students in TVET, today three years later we raised the number from 297,000 to 700,000 we target to reach one million by end of this year and two million in the next one year,’’ Kindiki said.
Prof Kindiki said reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accessible, quality and affordable education, it has been allocating Ksh650 billion but this year, it is releasing a record Ksh702 billion.

The government has also introduced modularization of the TVET curriculum, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and the Dual Training Policy (DTP) to ensure that graduands acquire market-ready skills and undergo compulsory practical industry exposure as part of their training before graduation.
“The Modularization of TVET curriculum is a game-changer as it enables many people to acquire skills through studying in modules until they complete their courses,” Kindiki said.
It has also approved recruitment of 5,800 more tutors and provision of modern equipment in TVETs will boost skills transfer for the learners.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba who accompanied the DP called for training to be aligned with CBE to ensure future educators equip learners with practical and employable skills.
The CS assured schools that capitation will be released before the end of this week.
