President William Ruto has announced that the government will employ an additional 2,000 tutors to Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) centres.

Speaking during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kericho Green Stadium, the president emphasized the vital role TVET colleges play in equipping the youth with essential skills, knowledge and competencies.

He revealed that his administration is keen on improving the education sector hence they had integrated Junior Secondary Schools into primary schools and eliminated months of uncertainty about the issue.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) hired 56,000 teachers in a single year to address teacher shortage, marking the highest number in the commission’s history.

“In line with the government’s policy of providing practical skills and competencies to Kenyan youth, TSC engaged 46,000 teacher interns,” he added.

Ruto revealed that his administration had also introduced a new funding model for higher education and technical and vocational training.

“This model guarantees free college studies for needy students through a combination of government scholarships, loans, and bursaries, effectively increasing funding per student by 40 percent.” He remarked.
