Gov’t to construct 37 classrooms as part of CBC implementation in Rongo

Rongo Sub-county is set to have 37 new classrooms as part of the 10,000 that president Kenyatta said would be built across the country as government undertakes the process of implementing Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

Confirming this during a press briefing in his office, the sub-county Director of Education Duncan Odhiambo noted that 72 contactors had applied for the government tender and are yet to be awarded to commence the construction of the classrooms expected to be ready by 4Th April 2022.

He however urged those who had registered to visit his office on the 26Th November to collect requests for quotation and bid documents to fill and return before or on 6Th December for evaluation and assessment before the ministry awards the tenders to those who shall have qualified for the job.

“We are working under a tight schedule and wish to ensure we conclude the exercise within the timeframe to enhance the smooth transition of CBC to junior secondary,” said Odhiambo.

He added that a total of 25 secondary schools have been selected to implement CBC in junior secondary school in 2023within the sub-county.

Secondary schools that have been selected to implement the new system of education is; Koderobara Boys with five classrooms, Oyugi Ogango Girls with three, Kanga High also with three classrooms and Nyarach among other schools.

The estimated number of learners expected to join junior secondary in 2023 are 3,560 pupils currently in grade five in over 60 primary schools across the sub-county; 1,820 being boys and 1,742 girls.

Mr. Odhiambo also noted that his office had received Kenya National Examination Council exam papers and are currently guarded under tight security in readiness for commencement on Monday next week.
