The government will construct hostels worth Ksh1.2 billion in Machakos Town to accommodate the growing number of students in universities and colleges located within the town.
Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki said 2,500 housing units will be built to ensure the safety and security of students at Machakos University, Scott Christian University, and Kenya Medical Training College, who have been living in private rentals.
Prof. Kindiki said the ‘University village’ will reduce the cost of accommodation incurred by the students.
“We are building hostels for our children in the university and colleges within Machakos Town.
We are creating a Machakos university village to ensure the safety and security of our students,” said Prof Kindiki.
He added that 600 housing units will also be built for Machakos Teachers College.
