Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang has revealed that the government will increase the budget of the school feeding programme from current Ksh2 billion to Ksh4 billion,  a move aimed at increasing the retention of learners in schools.

Speaking while presiding over the launch of Uasin Gishu Early Childhood Development Education  (ECDE) school milk programme at Central Primary school, Kipsang lauded Governor Jonathan Bii for implementing the programme to enhance  the government’s agenda to ensure all learners are in school.

The PS noted that the milk programme is a game changer in augmenting the quality of education and enrolment of more learners in schools.

‘‘The milk will help in the growth and development of the brains of learners,’’ he said.

On the other hand, Bii said the initiative, which engages the departments of education, health and agriculture, will level the playing field for learners irrespective of their backgrounds.

He noted that 40,000 school going children from over 500 primary schools across the county will benefit from the milk program dispensed twice a week.

He assured the public that he will address the issue of employment of ECDE teachers and provide instructional materials to learners so as to boost the quality of education in the area.
