Examiners who marked the 2022 KCSE, KCPE examinations will have their pay this week after the government released Sh. 2 Billion to effect the payment, Education Cabinet Secretary has said.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu was speaking at Kangaru Boys’ school in Embu County during an inaugural education day for the Manyatta constituency.

Machogu said the presidential directive that was issued some days back has led to faster release of the funds to the Kenya National Examination Council examiners and suppliers who have waited for a long time.

“Moving forward we shall prioritize payment of examiners and there will be no delays.

The delays were occasioned by the cash crunch in the council but that has already been sorted out and we have Sh. 2 Billion to sort pay the examiners.” he said.

In the KCSE marking exercise that began on December 28, 2022, and ended on January 18, 2023, the examination Council hired 30,000 examiners from 35 different centers.

Further, the CS said that the payment process for the contractors who constructed 1,950 classrooms in various schools across the country had already been kick-started.

“They will have their payment done this week since the government has already set aside Sh. 2.5 Billion for the payment.” He said

The education boss disclosed that they had also approached the World Bank to help in setting up junior secondary laboratories in schools saying this was aiming at aligning Kenyan education to international standards.

In the 2023-24 budget, KNEC has been allocated Ksh5 billion for examinations waiver for
primary and secondary school learners.

Manyatta member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji noted that the academic clinic was important since the students were able to get motivation from different professionals something he said was valued in the education sector.
