The Ministry of Education has commenced the process of assembling payment documents for contractors who were engaged in the first phase of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms construction as it looks into going into the second leg.

Speaking at Koderobara High School during the official handing over of two classes to the school, Migori County Director of Education (CDE) Jacob Onyiego noted that the construction was 100% complete.

Onyiego told Education News that the county had been allocated a total of 205 classrooms spread across the region and as schools await the junior secondary commencement, they were free to use the classrooms to address issues of congestion following the 100% transition policy.

“Once the construction of these 205 classrooms is complete, we hand them over to the respective school administrations for immediate use to help curb congestion in classrooms,” said Onyiego.

He noted that it was important they are paid before the government could roll out the second phase, which will be announced by the education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof George Magoha.

“I want to appreciate all the contractors who took part in this programme for giving quality classrooms and we look forward to the same cooperation once the CS announces the commencement of the second phase,” he remarked.

The CDE added that the ongoing transition to secondary school was so far successful, even as they monitored to ensure that all 2021 KCPE candidates transited.

His reassurances come days after several parents and students had expressed fears of being locked out even after receiving admission letters due to school fees challenges.

However, a survey done by Education News revealed that some schools had already overenrolled.

A case was St. Albert’s Girls Ulanda, which had so far received 500 Form One students and still expecting about 350 more.

The school principal Phenora Buyengo noted that their major focus was to give quality education despite the huge population and would remain focused on that.
