Gov’t pushes for more classes in private schools

By Rosemil Oduor

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has urged schools and entrepreneurs to invest more in junior secondary to facilitate the smooth rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

He said the transition requires adequate classrooms. Other than the 10,000 classrooms constructed by the government, he suggested that private schools should provide an additional 5,000. However, barely 6,000 of those classes have been completed.

He said there is no child for public or private schools and that all that mattered was a proper transition.

Magoha was speaking at Kodero Bara Secondary School in Migori County after inspecting junior secondary classes in the area.

There are close to 1.3 million learners registered for the Grade 6 exam who are expected to transition to junior secondary at Grade 7 in January.
