Kenya National Union of Teachers has urged the Government and Opposition to come down and allow dialogue to take its course saying demos are hurting education in the country.

They said Opposition leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto’s standoff will hurt the education sector in the country learners being the most affected.

Nyandaraua KNUT Branch Secretary John Ndungu told the government and opposition to prioritize the education of the Kenyan children and stop the political war which has already affected many schools,s especially day schools in the country.

“Sit down and calm the tension in the country to give the learners a conducive environment as they prepare to finish the school syllabus.

It is unfair for the children not to go to school due to the ongoing anti-government demonstration organized by the opposition.” Said Ndung’u

The Unionist urged Ruto and Raila to swallow their pride and seat down to get an amicable solution that will lead to cohesion and peace in the country.

He said there was room for sorting out the political tension in the country which has severely affected many education institutions in the country.

”Kenya belongs to all of us, as KNUT which is the main stakeholder in the Education sector in the Country, we call for the two of the leaders to sit down and calm the situation”, said Ndungu

He added that the current situation in the country will affect the National examinations including KPSEA, KCPE, and KCSE which will be done next term.

“It is true that Kenyans are going through a harsh economic situation but, if the government and the opposition dialogue they will get a solution to the problem facing Kenyans,” Ndung’u said

The anti-government demos which were held on Wednesday this week affected school programs with school administration requesting the parents to stay with their children at home.
