Govt enjoins Baringo Central into school feeding programme

Schools in Baringo Central Constituency will start getting food donations to keep children in school through the school feeding programme that is popular among ASAL (Arid and Semi Arid Lands) counties.

This was said by Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) George Koleesh while addressing concerns raised by school heads over the matter of the feeding programme.

He said despite being not being included in the programme, there was need to consider them even through relief food to families that are starving.

He said his office is playing a crucial role in mitigating hunger in the area, which is blamed (hunger) for the dismal performance in national examinations.

Koleesh noted that 560 bags of 50 Kg maize have already been dispatched to various schools.

The administrator added that 97 per cent of Grade 6 learners have transitioned to Junior Secondary School (JSS).

He was speaking during the launch of a Ksh50 million bursary fund for needy children in both secondary schools and technical colleges at Kabarnet Museum.
