The government through National Police Service has assured teachers and other government personnel working in the volatile Kerio Valley region of their security following recent banditry attacks that led to closure of schools.
The government says security officers have been deployed in every learning institution and other government establishments calling on the workers to continue discharging their duties.
Deputy Inspector of Police Eliud Lagat announced that all is being done to ensure normalcy returns, assuring residents of their security.
The DIG while addressing a public security meeting in Chesongoch Primary school stressed that the deployment of the security personnel will continue until long term stability is realized.

The intervention follows an earlier decision by teachers unions to pull their members from the area following the brutal killing of a catholic priest Aloise Cheruiyot Bett citing safety of teachers whom they termed as soft target since they are unarmed.
While welcoming the assurance, the teacher’s unions officials present in the meeting resolved to call off the earlier planned boycott giving the government a 21 days ultimatum to fix the insecurity issues saying if not tangible solution is done they will down their tools and cease operations in the area.

Elgeyo Marakwet governor Wesley Rotich lauded the security move. He thanked all those who continue to serve in the Kerio Valley for the sacrifice saying the county leadership is doing all in its means to ensure that lasting peace is restored.
