As the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations draw to a close this week, the government has issued a firm assurance that the integrity of the results will be completely safeguarded.

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Migos Ogamba confirmed that preparations for the marking of the national exam are already underway. He emphasized that strict briefs have been given to center managers to enforce operational discipline, which includes switching off mobile phones and securing them under lock and key.

CS Ogamba delivered his remarks in Kiambu County on Wednesday, November 19,  when he supervised the opening of KCSE examination papers for Geography and Physics at the Ruiru Deputy County Commissioner’s (DCC) offices. He was accompanied by Ruiru Member of Parliament (MP) Simon King’ara and other Ministry officials.

The CS also revealed that the transition of learners under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) will start on January 12, 2026.

“Senior secondary schools will receive their first cohort of learners by January 12, next year,” Ogamba stated.

He acknowledged the unique challenges ahead, noting, “The learners transitioning under CBE will require support as they join their colleagues undertaking the 8-4-4 curriculum.”

Regarding a reported conflict between Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers and secondary school heads, the CS downplayed concerns. “The matter is being addressed administratively, and there is no cause for concern,” he assured the public.

CS Ogamba highlighted a critical, ongoing effort by the Ministry to ensure equitable distribution of resources. He said, “The ongoing verification exercise by the Ministry regarding schools enrollment will enable the government to ensure there is fairness in distribution of resources among schools in all areas of the country.”

This verification, he noted, will ensure densely populated areas like Ruiru get enough teachers and infrastructure such as laboratories and libraries.

Ruiru MP Simon King’ara commended the government’s commitment to improving education in his constituency. He praised the administration “for addressing the issue of congestion in public schools in Ruiru and undertaking to post more teachers and improve infrastructure.”

The legislator confirmed that several institutions are set to benefit from the efforts, including the Ruiru Vocational Training College and Ruiru Boys Secondary School, where hostels are currently being constructed.
