A USA-based Kenyan Educationist and Motivational Speaker Dr. Vincent Kituku has appealed to the government to find a long-lasting solution to prevent the planned teachers’ strike on Monday coinciding with schools’ reopening date.

Dr. Kituku said that the strike, if not prevented, will cause anxiety and emotional stress to students and parents, adding that it will negatively impact the preparations for national examinations set to begin in October.

Speaking to Education News yesterday, he quipped that the government must prioritize teachers’ compensation because teachers are vital in the preparation of learners’ future.

“Teachers do more than teaching a subject. They play the role of parents, big brothers and big sisters and spiritual leaders on a daily basis. At the moment, the employer should honor his pledge as agreed in order to prevent the strike,” he said.

However, Dr. Kituku also urged teachers to soften their stance and embrace dialogue with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to find an amicable solution instead of going on strike.
