Govt asked to facilitate nurturing of students’ talents after school

Most students doing well in sports while in high school lack support after completing their secondary education causing their talents to die, Tala Satellite High School Director has said.

While speaking during appreciation of their badminton, table tennis and volleyball teams who excelled in zonal games held at Tala High School on Saturday, Director Jackline King’ola noted that there were many talented students who fail to achieve their dreams because they have no mentors to hold their hands.

She called on the government to establish facilities for the youth to nurture their talents, opining that nurturing of talents will curb unemployment among the youth.

“We always tell students that talent pays but some of them have had their hopes crushed due to lack of support after their studies. Out here, we have people who would be doing better if supported well. Others don’t even practice anymore,” she said.

King’ola also noted that lack of sporting facilities in school has not allowed students to reach their potential and urged both the county and national governments to prioritize sports in their agenda.

She regretted that many participants get to use professional equipment only during national games.

“Many schools are lacking adequate sporting material thus causing students to lack enough training and exposure in developing their talents. The government needs to come up with sports academies to help in nurturing talents,” she noted.

The teams qualified for the sub-county games which will be held on Thursday and Friday this week.
