Uasin Gishu Governor, Jackson Mandago, has urged youths to join technical institutions for them to get hands on skills.

While speaking to the press, Mandago said that it will help the youth to gain technical skills which will help them get self-employed.

“I want to humbly urge youths and form four leavers to swallow their pride and join technical institutions since it provides youth with applicable knowledge and skills suitable for the present age job market,” said the Governor.

Mandago said it is easier for a student who has acquired technical skills to get employment opportunity compared to one who has attended college or university.

“The only remedy to the joblessness the youths are facing is technical institutions, therefore lets refrain from the norm that technical institutions are meant for failures by joining and enrolling in the schools, you will not regret,” governor Mandago added.

Mandago said that his government pays more than 50% of total fees annually hence lessening the burned parents carry on school fees.

“Every student studying in all our VTCs gets Kshs. 15,000 from the County Government and is required to pay Kshs 10,000 only in every year of study. Some of the marketable courses offered among others include; hairdressing, Carpentry, Agribusiness, Building, Technology, Electrical Installation and also Welding and Fabrication,” he added.

He further called on parents to first agree that technical education is an empowerment to the society.

“I want to urge parents to enroll their children in technical institutions where they will be equipped with skills and knowledge that will help them earns a living. This is the only way to change the economic standards of our society. Once parents agree with the aim of this program, it will be easy to convince our children to join our colleges,” he said.
