Governor urges parents to care for children in coming holiday

Education Holiday Kisii

Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has asked parents to take care of their children as they head home for April Holiday next week.

He noted that most parents in the county do not take care of their children delegating the responsibility to teachers.

“The role of teachers is to instill academic knowledge and partial counselling but the core role of bringing up the child rests on the hands of parents,” he said.

Arati said that some parents who brewed illicit brews such as Chang’aa in their homes, used their school-going children to ferry the alcohol to their clients.

He blamed corrupt Chiefs and their assistants for allowing such vices to thrive in their areas of jurisdiction.

The governor, who addressed the public in Kisii town, threatened to sack from his government any civil servant who will be found drunk during or after work.

His move was lauded by Kisii County Small Trade Owners Chairman Jane Matiabe.

She said that cracking a whip on production of illicit beer will reduce the presence of roaming children in the streets of the main towns like Kisii, Ogembo, Keroka Nyamache, Masimba and Nyamarambe.

Matiabe appealed to the county government to hasten the construction and completion of Kiamuasi Rehabilitation Center to domicile the wandering children and equip them with life skills.

She appealed to the residents to adhere to the governor’s plea of censoring careless drinking in the county in order to have valuable people who are ready to work for its productivity.
