Governor urges Form 4 leavers to join technical institutions

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has urged students who completed Form Four and didn’t qualify to join universities to enroll in technical institutions.

Speaking after commissioning St. Cecilia Kabenes ECDE Water Project, Bii said students will be able to acquire technical skills which will help them earn a living.

“I want to assure students who sat for their KCSE and did not qualify to join Universities that this is not the end of the road. I urge you to enroll in technical institutions where you can start from Certificate level and later join University and become what you want to be,” he said.

Bii further refuted the notion that technical institutes are meant for failures.

“I want to refute the notion going round that technical institutions are meant for failures. Technical colleges are the best since after completion, one is able to employ him or herself,” the Governor advised.

The County boss said that his government pays more than 50 per cent of total fees annually hence lessening the burden for parents.

“Every student studying in all our VTCs gets Ksh 15,000 from the County Government and is required to pay Ksh 10,000 only every year. Some of the marketable courses offered include; Hairdressing, Carpentry, Agribusiness, Building, Technology, Electrical Installation, and also Welding and Fabrication,” he said.

He further noted that the County’s plan to implement the school feeding programme for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners was on course.

The Governor added that the promise he made to ECDE teachers to hire them on permanent and pensionable terms will be actualized soon

“The ECDE teachers’ welfare was part of my pre election pledge and I am glad that the wish has come to pass. As I engaged with a group of teachers from Sinonin, it became apparent the move to make them permanent and pensionable was long overdue. They are now re energized and offering service with dedication,” he said.
