Uasin Gishu County Governor Jonathan Bii has urged the Ministry of Education (MOE) to fast track the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) ahead of double intake in January 2023.

Speaking at Simat Secondary School in Uasin Gishu county during the Prayer Day ceremony, Governor Bii urged the team tasked with reviewing the curriculum to speed up so that the children and teachers can adapt to it if implemented.

The governor stated that education is one of the best ways to shape the future lives of the children.

“Education is a lifetime investment because it shapes the destiny of our children. As institutions strive to impart knowledge and skills on our children, it is also imperative for the education ministry to fast-track on its reforms and offer guidance on the CBC evaluation debate,” said Bii.

The governor’s sentiments  comes  after president William ruto appointed a taskforce to to review and give recommendations on the CBC after collecting the views of parents, teachers and other stakeholders across the 47 counties.

The taskforce started collecting views yesterday November 1 and the exercise will take two weeks (end on November 18).

The exercise will be conducted between 8am and 4pm on the respective days.

Among the major issues raised by parents concerning CBC is lack of enough time to engage with the children in order to help them with the school work especially in families where both parents are working and the costly nature of the curriculum.
