Governor to employ 1,800 ECDE tutors on permanent terms

Uasin Gishu County governor Jonathan Bii has said that he will hire 1,800 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.

The governor stated that overhauling the ECDE sector was among his top priorities.

“I want a vigorous ECDE department and that’s why I’ll employ them under permanent and pensionable terms. They’ve been serving under contracts for a decade and I’m focused on addressing their plight,” he said.

In May this year, ECDE teachers petitioned the senate to pressurize County governments to address the issue of employment on permanent and pensionable terms and implementation of a scheme of service.

The governor also revealed that he had overhauled the county’s health revolving fund. In collaboration with Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and AMPATH, patients will now acquire cost-effective drugs.
