Bungoma Governor, Ken Lusaka has promised to continue putting up more measures to streamline the county Scholarship Programme and Ward Bursaries Kitty to boost quality Education amongst children from vulnerable families.
Speaking at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital Paediatric unit while dispensing and distributing drugs and other pharmaceutical products worths Shs 54.8 million from the Kenya Medical Supplies (KEMSA) Lusaka revealed that early next week he is going to conduct a meeting with all Secondary Schools Principals at Lugulu Girls National School.
He added that due to an outcry from a section of parents who allege that their children were struck out from the list of scholarship beneficiaries , his office is going to look out more for a formidable solution into the matter.
According to Governor Lusaka the number of student beneficiaries ballooned from the previous government to 8,000 during the campaigns period last year but it had to reduce to 5,000 students due to the budgetary allocations towards education department.
“Parents and Guardians have a responsibility over the Education of their children. Some leaders have turned the issue of Scholarship to be a tool of political propaganda against my administration,” said Lusaka.
The leader said that he understands the County Government owes schools funds to a tune of Shs 14 million to various Schools and hinted that once funds are disbursed to counties the money will be wired directly to their accounts.
