Embu governor Cecily Mbarire has promised to provide the necessary infrastructure in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres across the county.
Speaking after being sworn in as the governor, Mbarire said most TVETs lack equipment to ensure the youth are equipped with skills and knowledge that will make them self-reliant.
“TVETs in this county are underfunded hence the youth lack the chance to get the necessary training for the job market,” she said.
The governor promised to improve the status of Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centres, as they are to be handled by the devolved county governments.
The county boss also pointed out she will staff both TVETs and ECDEs since the institutions have been having staffing challenges.
“We are aiming at a teacher student ratio of 1 to 30 because the ECDE responsibility is for the county government so that we can deliver the most basic early childhood development to our children,” Mbarire noted.
Mbarire observed that she will also ensure the county bursary for the needy students are fairly distributed so that the target children can benefit.
Embu county has 495 ECDE centres.
