Governor pledges to build on predecessor’s education foundation

Kakamega county governor Fernandes Barasa has lauded the administration of his predecessor, Wycliffe Oparanya for laying the education sector foundation making it easier for him to build up on it.

Speaking at the county assembly during opening of the third session, the governor said that the foundation saw Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers and polytechnics instructors hired on permanent and pensionable terms which would ensure efficient delivery of their mandate.

The government constructed new classrooms and administration blocks in most schools.

Governor Barasa said the new administration shall emphasize on developing both public and private schools to be among the best learning institutions in the country.

“I will enhance school infrastructure and recruit additional teachers and instructors to sustain the best education levels in the county. We have provided 100 percent capitation and established centres of excellence in local polytechnics,” he added.

Vocational institutions have also been constructed to promote specialization of skills in demand.

The governor also said that his administration will enhance budget allocation for bursaries, county scholarships, education and health programmes to ensure education for needy learners is guaranteed.
