Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has advised the youth to join vocational training institutions to acquire skills which will in turn enable them to be competent enough to provide the services of the expanding urban centers.
“Acquisition of such skills will enable majority of our youth to provide the much needed technical services required to drive our future cities and urban centers,” She said.
Speaking at Mitaboni location in Kathiani Sub-county, during a burial ceremony of the late Bernard Muthoka, Governor Ndeti blamed the recent unrest on unemployment and hopelessness among the youth.
“My government will ensure every form four leaver and any young person is supported to join TVET universities, or colleges to, ensure no one is left behind. That’s why the National Youth Service was strengthened to offer vocational training and build livelihoods.” She said.
She expressed concern over the growing frustration among unemployed youth across the country saying their lives are at stake if not monitored.

“Our young people are not just in urban centres. They’re in wards, in villages and they are looking for opportunity. As leaders, we must ask ourselves: what are we doing to change their story?” Governor Ndeti said.
Governor Wavinya cited progress in Machakos County, where 1,000 young people have completed skills training through the county’s youth employment initiative.
“In the coming months, we’ll be equipping them with startup kits, whether it’s salon tools or carpentry kits, to help them launch their businesses and earn a living.” She added
She urged the national government to devolve more resources to counties, stressing that real change happens at the grassroots.
“Empower the counties. With adequate funding and proper use, we can support our youth, restore their hope, and reduce unrest. These young people aren’t the problem; they’re simply looking for someone to believe in them.” Ndeti said
