Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has today launched ‘Elimu na Simba Programme’ aimed at sponsoring bright students from needy backgrounds who scored 350 marks and above in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

Speaking while launching the programme at Gusii stadium, the county chief assured the learners that the programme will cater for the four years of their secondary school education.

“With me as your governor, you can be sure of progressing academically and the future is bright,” Arati said challenging the beneficiaries to take advantage of the sponsorship and work hard to post impressive results.

Arati clarified the programme was not government-funded but a group initiative by himself, his deputy, County Executive Committee Members and other staff in his office.

Terming education as an equalizer in the society, he said any poor but educated individual has an opportunity to access success.

“That is why we have come up with this programme to help send more children to school,” he said.

He noted that poverty had ruined the education for many learners adding that it’s his wish that the programme brings hope and light to the area residents.

“My ultimate measure will be the success these pupils will bring to their families and the county,” he said.

He added: “We have Elimu na Simba for now but we have also re-introduced the County Bursary which will soon be launched.”

He noted that the county has put in place a supplementary budget which once approved will disburse the bursary funds worth Ksh 135 million.
