Governor holds consultative meeting to address rising insecurity cases

Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti last evening held a consultative meeting with Machakos University management to find a way of dealing with the rising cases of insecurity in the area.

The governor’s move comes after the killing of a student, Duncan Kipngetich, on December 1, 2022.

Kipngetich, a third-year student at Machakos University, succumbed to severe head injuries sustained after he was attacked by thugs outside the university.

He was rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital in critical condition where he died.

Following his death, university students demonstrated against the insecurity in the area and blocked the Machakos-Wote road. A student was shot during the demos and is currently receiving treatment at Machakos level five hospital.

Wavinya confirmed that two people have been arrested in connection with the crime. One of them is a police officer.

She urged the students to remain calm as the police carry on with the investigations to bring justice to the deceased.

“Kindly work with the security team to ensure security is enhanced in the region and use the right channels to air your grievances,” she advised.

She also asked the police to ensure everyone feels secure as no parents sends their child to school to die.

“We will work together to ensure security for our students.” She concluded.
