Governor encourages youths to join CTTI, TVET for skills up scaling

Makueni County Governor, Mutula Kilonzo Jr has encouraged youths to join County Technical Training Institutes (CTTIs), and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs to gain and advance different skills.

He said the county is deliberate to strengthen its CTTIs as one of the key driver of economic empowerment among youths.

Speaking during Madaraka day, on June 1, held at Mukuyuni primary school, Mutula said youth empowerment remains a key to the county.

“To address the challenges of unemployment, among our youths, we are going to equip and empower over 900 youths with skills,” Mutula said.

He added that the youths will not only get skills but also start up kits in the Cttis through KBC foundation partnership.

During the event, Makueni County Commissioner, Duncan Darusi called upon parents to be keen on parenting noting that many youths arrested in connection to crime are between 17 to 18 years adding that it is  awakening call to parents to tighten up their belts in parenting.

“Kindly get time with your children, mentor, counsel and be close to them so that they can open up incase of any challenges in life. It will also help you to notice any changes in them when you are closer to them,” Darusi added.

He warned youths to desist from crimes adding that even if they are not employed, crime is not an excuse at all.

The commissioner encouraged parents to enroll their children in TVET for skills instead of involving in vices.

“In TVET nowadays there is new modularized CBET curriculum which will help a lot. One can study in phases among other advantages,” Commissioner advised.
