Governor encourages young people joining varsity to uphold integrity

Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga talking to students about life in university as they wait to join, asking them to be people of integrity and respect.

Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga has told youth joining universities to uphold a high degree of integrity, order and respect as they mature and engage in national building activities.

Addressing the young people from her jurisdiction as they prepare to join higher learning institutions this year, the governor asked them to be good ambassadors of national integration.

“When you will join various universities, try to coexist with other learners from the rest of the country and be your brother’s keeper,” she said.

Saying that the government spends a lot to support education development, she asked the learners to put more effort in their studies and excel as the best way of expressing gratitude to the government that funds their education.

She asked the learners to be wary of wrong peers who often lure them into drug abuse and other intoxicants.

“I am not limiting you to the type of friends you will meet but only reminding you to choose wisely and remember that choices have consequences,” Wanga remonstrated.

The governor promised her office will support all needy students from the area to access quality education.

She decried the number of needy cases from the area who hunger for education and lauded the new model of university funding because it favourably caters for students from poor backgrounds.

The governor said her office had put elaborate plans to keep the youth together through sports during the long December holidays.

“In these annual meetings our youth will showcase a variety of talents that will help games and sports experts to identify and support them to realize their potential,” she said.

Elizabeth Akinyi who spoke on behalf of the students thanked the governor for the gesture, pledging that they will be law-abiding citizens as they leave their parents to start a new life in both adulthood and education.
