Kisii youth have been told to embrace and harness digital technology in order to remain relevant in the current technology-biased job market.

Speaking at Kisii town during the flagging off of 1,000 youth to train in computer and information technology, governor Simba Arati asked them to change their traditional perception of employment by embracing jobs that come their way regardless of how low-status they may be.

“Times have changed from only getting employment in government offices due to high competition so you must position yourselves strategically for survival,” he added.

He asked them to diversify their skills to various careers like plumbing, electrical installation, computer repairing, carpentry and welding because they have a ready market.

While also launching a new music recording studio in the town, Arati asked the youth to use their talents especially in music to educate, push for change and entertain.

He said that the studio will provide free services to promising youth by promoting their talents.

The governor gave examples of local artistes like MC Miggy and Mr. Ong’eng’o whom he said started small but have emerged international musicians.

“I have given you a full equipped studio in my small way now use your youthful prowess to free yourselves from economic slavery,” he said.

He was flanked by Kisii County Director of Culture Gender and Youth Development Nyambane Obino.

Obino who is a former high school teacher and trainer in drama, said the studio had come at the opportune time.

He asked the youth to seize the opportunity to build themselves instead of indulging in drug abuse and other vices.
