Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has asked the County Public Service Board to be vigilant during recruitment in a move to deal with job seekers using fake academic papers.

Oparanya said the Board should set up a unit that will probe job applicants to root out those presenting fake papers to secure employment.

“The public service board should have a unit that keenly examines academic documents presented by job seekers. They should also follow up on institutions and references listed by job seekers to check whether or not they were genuine,” he said.

He said he had established that some people secured employment in the county government by presenting fake academic documents.

Speaking during a consultative meeting on the scheme of service for county polytechnics instructors and Early Childhood Development Education teachers, Oparanya said human resource was critical to the smooth running of his government.

He said most of the factories being constructed in the county including milk, tea, gold and waste management would require technical personnel.

“We should now focus on incorporating technical staff from our polytechnics in our development plans,” he said.

He asked the Department of Trade to develop a database for all students with technical skills so that when a vacancy arises, they are given the first priority.
